Q: Will this work well under a ball cap for mowing? There are no photos of it without a hard hat :-(

I would assume so. One would probably have to loosen the ball cap to compensate for the thickness of the liner.

Q: Why gray ? Shouldn’t it be a lighter color ? If they had these in any other colors , I would buy

It's not a fashion show, it is a fire retardant sun shade for the job site. Gray is the best color for both reflecting solar waves, it does not soak up the heat like dark color would do, it also hides the dirt from normal use.
