There are two sizes of bins: the smaller (measured by outside edge of bin) are 12" X 8" The larger bins are 12"X 16" There are 4 larger bins and 8 smaller bins. Each row will hold one large and two smaller. Hope that this helps!

Q: Are the dowels made of wood or metal?

The dowels are made of metal. The sides are laminated wood and the dowels are metal. All of the pieces are good quality and durable. My 2.5 year old son is hard on stuff and it's held very nicely.

Bought this for my daughter for my granddaughter. She loves it. It is well-made and easy to put together. My granddaughter loves it as toys are easy to reach. Daughter loves it as toys are easy to put away and neaten up room. In fact, I just ordered a second one for her.
