Every country has its own way of doing things, and Ireland's is no different. The country is steeped in tradition, and to this day some very old traditions remain. One such tradition is the Irish whiskey. Now, there are many types of whiskey produced in Ireland, but the most popular and well-known is Bushmills. Bushmills is named after the town of Bushmills in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It was first distilled in 1784 by James Magill and Alexander Peden who were working as distillers for a farmer from Co. Antrim. With the help of James McEwan and John Magill, James Magill bought the distillery in 1805 and renamed it McEwans Distillery. In 1823, John Jameson became a partner in the distillery and helped to establish Bushmills as one of the finest whiskeys in the world. Jameson's son, also named John Jameson, bought out his father's share of the distillery in 1842 and established John Jameson & Co. Ltd. The brand first began to be exported to America in 1870. Bushmills is one of the few Irish whiskeys that is distilled using pot stills rather than column stills because they believe that it gives their whiskey a smoother taste. The company has focused on keeping its standards high since it was founded over 250 years ago.
